I have used the play The Trial of the cigarette on numerous occasions and I have to say it is the most effective resource I have yet to find to teach the effects of cigarette smoking. Students are having fun while learning the dangers and the negative effects of the cigarette. I have presented this play to parents, the whole school, and community groups, and they all rave at all the information taught to the students without them really realizing it. I would give this play a 10!!!

Synopsis
A courtroom is the scene when a cigarette is put on trial for endangering Jacob Jacobson’s body. Various body organs, Herbie the wallet, Jacob’s wife, and a host of other agitated witnesses all have complaints to share about their hazardous encounters with the fuming cigarette. Needless to say, the defense lawyer will have to sharpen his wit and skills to defend his dubious client against a barrage of nasty accusations. The humorous play is a fun and entertaining way to reinforce the dangers of smoking without the preaching involved. It is a perfect way to conclude a health unit and suitable for the entire class to participate in a cross-curriculum learning experience.
