Trapped in the library late one night, Beth meets the Hero of a 1001 tales (including this one) and asks the storybook Hero to help her find an exit. The Hero claims, “‘Tis simplicity itself! When I was Aladdin, I simply summoned the Genie!” Beth explains to the Hero that Genies don’t exist in the real world and the Hero responds, “I don’t suppose the princess will smuggle a key to us then?” Beth sadly turns around to find herself standing face-to-face with the storybook Villain. Before long, the Villain and the Hero are arguing about everything from props to plots until Beth explains that disputes in the 21st century are settled in court. So it’s off to Judge Roy Bean’s literary court for the case of the Storybook Villain vs. Storybook Hero where the witnesses, including the Lady in Distress and Queen Guinevere, put their left hand on the “Collected Works of Shakespeare” and put the infamous protagonist on trial.
